Thank you! Turns out it is playing at a theater near me!

Don't feel bad if this doesn't turn anything up yet, my local theaters don't have showtimes up yet.

My girlfriend and I will heading to Tinseltown Theatre in Downtown Vancouver on Friday to watch two films back-to-back. The two films being "Ponyo" and "500 Days of Summer"

Looking forward to it. =D

At first this was the news I wanted to hear until I did the search results for my neck of the woods. I guess I won't despair just yet.

For the sake of everyone who can't see Ponyo this weekend, we'll go twice to push up the traffic. I'll have to bring earplugs for that hideous Disney "song" at the closing credits, but I think I'll manage.

Hopefully, our insect overlords will expand Ponyo to more screens on week two. Such a move would be shocking, but very, very welcome.

Here in the Twin Cities, Ponyo is playing on two screens, one at an AMC in Eagan, and the Landmark in Edina. These are both suburbs, and Miyazaki movies usually play at the Uptown theater in Minneapolis. Clearly, they're going after families with Ponyo, and the Landmark theaters will hold onto this movie for quite a while.

"800 Screens" doesn't stretch very far in the United States, does it? Remember that Howl's Moving Castle opened on 202 screens; that number was collapsed to 37 on week 2, despite strong per-screen numbers.

I've been very fortunate with Miyazaki films or other films of that ilk (such as Paprika) due to living in Vancouver. Sometimes multiple theatres will show them, but at the very least the big multiplex "Tinseltown" always has them.

It's nice to be able to watch them on a big screen in a newer theater rather then a dingy old one. (although the latter do have their charms)

Weird.... I saw Howl at the AMC Loew's Theatre about five minutes from me, which is the big theatre in the Pittsburgh area... and Ponyo is not listed as playing there.

Ponyo is playing in three theaters in my county, and none of them are listed there. So if your theater isn't listed don't get upset and just wait and see

Yes, I would advise patience. Some theaters will shuffle movies around until the last moment, so once this Friday's lineups are announced, we'll know where to go. Here in Minneapolis, it's the Wednesday listings in the City Pages.

As always, things are subject to change, so stay alert.
